Hi, I’m Katy Jepsen — Licensed Home Birth Midwife in Orange County.
I’m a licensed home birth midwife in Orange County, CA, dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence-based, and relationship-centered prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. I support families through the full journey of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, grounded in physiology and informed choice.
I founded The Homebirth Co. to offer women a space where they feel heard, respected, and deeply supported through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I also offer well-woman care for individuals at all stages of life.
My path to midwifery began as a doula, a role I held for over seven years—primarily within hospital settings. While I was honored to support many families during this time, I repeatedly witnessed women’s voices being overlooked and birth plans dismissed. Those experiences clarified something in me: birth deserves time, presence, skill, and deep respect. Answering the call to midwifery felt both necessary and inevitable. I enrolled at the National Midwifery Institute and have never looked back.
I bring over seven years of hands-on experience to my work and have attended more than 100 births. I have had the privilege of apprenticing with and learning from many skilled midwives in the area, gaining wisdom through shared care, mentorship, and community. My practice is grounded in physiology, informed choice, and the belief that women thrive when they are trusted and supported.
I currently live in Orange County, where I am raising my four children with my husband. We homeschool, spend as much time outdoors as possible, and feel most at home hiking, at the beach, or simply moving our bodies together. These rhythms of family life and presence deeply inform how I practice—slowly, intentionally, and with reverence for the seasons of life.
My Philosophy of Care
I believe that the female body is inherently capable of giving birth. When birth is allowed to unfold physiologically—without unnecessary interruption—outcomes are often improved for both mother and baby. My role is not to manage or control birth, but to support it, protect the conditions that allow it to progress naturally, and to walk alongside women as a calm, skilled presence.
My work as a midwife is deeply shaped by my Christian faith. I view birth as sacred work—an intimate intersection of the physical, emotional, and spiritual—and I understand my role as one of service, stewardship, and humility. I seek to honor God by caring for women and families with compassion, reverence, and excellence.
I am trained to care for normal, low-risk pregnancies and births, and I bring the experience and knowledge to recognize early when circumstances move outside that range. When this occurs, I respond quickly, thoughtfully, and respectfully, always prioritizing the safety of both mother and baby while maintaining trust and collaboration.
Every family comes to birth with their own hopes, experiences, and vision. I honor women’s autonomy and deeply value informed choice. Care is collaborative, not prescriptive. You are the decision-maker in your birth, and my job is to ensure you are well-informed, supported, and respected every step of the way
Relationship Centered Care.
Trust is not assumed — it is built. Prenatal care with me is unhurried and relational, allowing time to truly know one another. This relationship is the foundation of safe homebirth care. When trust is present, women are better able to relax into labor, and when challenges arise, they are able to trust my guidance and clinical judgment.
Should birth move outside the bounds of normal physiology, I draw on a combination of training, evidence, experience, and intuition to guide next steps. I believe intuition is strongest when it is grounded in skill and knowledge, and evidence is most useful when applied with discernment and humanity.
Care that is Sacred and Skilled.
I hold birth with reverence — not because it is fragile, but because it is powerful. I respect its unpredictability, its intensity, and its capacity to transform. At the same time, I take seriously the responsibility of being a trained medical professional present at birth. Safety, preparedness, and clear communication are essential parts of my care
“It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth.”
